Ylva Freihofer is the Executive Director for Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce Washington D.C. The SACC-DC Chamber focuses on adding value for their corporate, business, individual and young professional members, and this is done in a number of ways. One important aspect of SACC-DC’s commitment to its affiliates is getting involved with consulting services, event management and hosting several corporate events a year to increase network integration and cohesion. This includes the famed crayfish celebration, Golf tournament and Holiday Event.
In regard to consulting services, they aim to attract and organize incoming fact-finding missions for Swedish business delegations to the greater Washington D.C. area. In the beginning of November, they arranged, together with SACC-USA, a seminar for the Swedish healthcare association Swecare.
Swecare is a healthcare association whose goal is to develop global partnerships in health. They arrange activities in Sweden and other countries to promote Swedish healthcare and Swedish companies. Swecare has a unique platform that facilitates the conjoining of private and public sectors to increase exports and promote the internationalization of Swedish healthcare and life science.
Five member companies in the Swecare delegation who were interested in establishing and expanding their businesses in the U.S. visited Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. during their trip to the U.S. at the end of October. Supported by its local knowledge and extensive network within the area, SACC-DC arranged a highly informative and valuable two-day program for the delegation. The first day consisted of a seminar where SACC-DC members and partners gave presentations on health-care related topics. The seminar was followed by a networking event at the Swedish Ambassador’s residence where the delegation had the opportunity to create new and interesting contacts from the DC area. On the second day the delegation was taken to a new hospital center.
– The response was very positive both from the Swecare association and the individual members of the delegation. The SACC-DC members who were invited to give presentations and to participate in the evening reception were also very grateful for the opportunity, says Ylva Freihofer. The delegation was very thankful for our local contacts and know-how of the area. They got useful information which will help them with their future expansion. The delegation was also very keen to learn more about the SACC network as they consider other locations in addition to DC for their U.S. expansion.
Arranging these kinds of events is a fantastic opportunity for the regional chambers and Ylva Freihofer is looking forward to hosting more delegations from Sweden.
– We are continuously trying to market how the SACC network can help Swedish companies thrive in every region across the U.S. We also hope that Swecare can become our ambassador and will help us attract other fact-finding mission to the area in the future. The SACC Network is strong when untied and aims to collaborate among its various networks and combine local knowledge across the US in order to offer high quality multi-regional missions.
