Sweden is playing a vital and growing role in this exploding industry. It simply turns out that Swedes are pretty clever when it comes to developing great computer games. This, in turn, is beginning to show on companies’ bottom lines. Swedish gaming companies generated some $200 million in revenues in 2007, up 20 percent over 2006, according to the Swedish Games Industry association. The trade group estimates that a gamedeveloping company receives an average of about 10 percent of the money actually spent by the retail customers. That means that in 2007, consumers around the world purchased an estimated $2 billion in computer games developed by Swedish companies. Such numbers have put Sweden among the world’s top 10 exporters of computer games.
