Tilltro till cleantech – trots störtdykning

Investeringarna i miljöteknik föll kraftigt under första kvartalet 2009.

Swedish Know-How Can Help the U.S. Cut Oil Dependency and Switch to Green

Sweden Puts Its Bets on Green Tech

Sweden boasts some 3,500 clean tech companies that together book roughly $14 billion in revenues. Exports, which make up about a quarter of their overall sales, have grown 75% over the last four years. To further boost the industry, the government is earmarking $590 million for environmental projects over the next two years, including $180 million to commercialize green tech. None other than King Carl XVI Gustav has become the green industry’s biggest promoter and fan. The 62-year-old king, whose environmental activism goes back to his Boy Scout days, is also taking to the road to pitch Swedish green business. The king also sees Swedish exports and the environment as natural partners. "We’re a small country, so we’re dependent on exports. And we’ve always lived in a clean environment, close to nature." He admits change isn’t easy but says, "We have to think in the long term, not short term as we have before, but still make this happen quickly. I try to change my own thinking. We have to make this happen and not just discuss it.

Medical Entrepreneurs Made In Sweden

Healthcare is a major Swedish export, not far behind the automobile industry, but lately it has
shown signs of fatigue. It’s as if it needs a shot in the arm, and perhaps even some reorganization
and revitalization. “We could get much, much more out of healthcare sector in terms of export,”
says Karin Lind-Mörnersten, head of the SwecareFoundation, a semiprivate healthcare export
promotion group.

Edays Shines in Stockholm—in the Midst of Financial Crisis

Just as Wall Street was starting to collapse in mid-September, American decision- and dealmakers were meeting their Swedish counterparts in Stockholm at SACC-USA’s Entrepreneurial Days. While banks crumbled and shares plummeted Stateside, in the Swedish capital the talk was of strong transatlantic ties and continued business opportunities.

Praising SACC-USA for their 20 years in operation Jacob Wallenberg, Investor's chairman, delivered timely remarks at the SACC-USA’s anniversary banquet concerning the atmosphere of financial chaos that loomed. He said that today, now more than ever, in order for companies to be successful, they need quick access to the kind of network that SACC provides in order to make

Business Intelligence Made in Sweden
One of the world’s fastest-growing companies sits on the outskirts of Philadelphia. It was born in southern Sweden, but in 2006 it pulled up its roots and moved its headquarters to the U.S. “You need a strong American presence if you want to attract American customers, and besides, we want to introduce the company on Nasdaq,” says Lars Björk, CEO of QlikTech. The move to the U.S. went smoothly, perhaps simply because not many of the employees themselves had to move. Björk, who is very familiar with America, having lived and studied here before, is one of the very few QlikTech officers who had to relocate. “Our development is still handled in Lund, Sweden, and we still hire people there. There’s no reason to move development to the U.S., where it would be much more expensive,” he says.
