This sector includes Medical- and Biotechnology.

Medical- and Biotechnology
Sweden is a European leader in Medical and Bio-Technology. Companies such as Pharmacia and Astra Zeneca, with roots in Sweden, have been key to this success. Also, a recognized leader
in medical and device technologies, Sweden has drawn investment from world leading companies in the Midwest such as Boston Scientific/Guidant, Medtronic, and GE Healthcare. Areas of common interest for Sweden and the U.S. include, in Biotech, pharmaceuticals and medicines, biotech tools and supply, bio-production, functional foods and feeds, environmental biotechnology, and agro-biotechnology.

In Medical Technology, key areas include assisting devices and prosthetics, wound healing, hygiene, implants, anesthesia and intensive care, nutrition, incontinence, and stomi procedures and devices. In R&D overlap can be found in work with stem cell and nano-technology research.

Alternative Energy Resources
Swedish businesses are among the most active and entrepreneurial in the world when it comes to the development of Alternative Energy Resources. As a result, cooperation between companies in Sweden and the American businesses in the Midwest is a natural fit.
