Sustainable Energy
Swedish businesses are among the most active and entrepreneurial in the world when it comes to the development of Sustainable Energy solutions. California is the most progressive states in the US when it comes to environmental issues in leading and legislate for changes, as well as, staying on the forefront of new clean technology.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the State of California and the Government of Sweden on renewable fuels and energy in 2006. As a result, cooperation between companies in Sweden and the American businesses in California is a natural fit.
Common areas in research and development include: bio-energy (e.g. biogas, biodiesel, ethanol), waste and wood for energy generation; solar power for cooling/heating and electricity generation including wind power, alternative lighting and energy conservation and building technologies.
As to the above, many opportunities for cross-border success and collaboration exist for both Americans and Swedes alike.
*This program will continue with company visits on April 10th.
Wireless/Telecom
San Diego has the third largest concentration of telecommunication companies in the US. The University of California at San Diego (UCSD) has established the Center for Wireless Communication which conducts primary research with corporate partners. One of the large actors in Telecom is CommNexus (former San Diego Telecom Council) a large Network of Communication Companies that organizes 80-100 networking and technical events a year.
The software industry comprises over 350 companies employing over 20,000 people. There are many very well known companies including Intuit, Qualcomm, etc. The San Diego Software Industry Council has 250+ members.
Venture Capital
This program is targeted to Swedish and U.S. firms and investors who want to make useful contacts across the Atlantic. Why Southern California? As you know Southern California has become as active as Silicon Valley for the Venture Capitalists. We refer to it as the “Tech Coast” and it encompasses the area between Santa Barbara all the way South to San Diego. We are inviting a broad spectrum of VC’s and Private Equity Groups, but we will also be able to custom tailor the VC program to your needs. We have one fund in particular that is currently very active in pursuing Swedish Company’s. They want to identify Swedish Company’s that are about to go public. The VS program is arranged in cooperation with SVCA -Swedish Private Equity and Caoital Association.
